I removed the inflatables and the tune to sign, along with digging out the mini trees. Took me 1 and a half to blow out the driveway and it's still snowing, going snowmobiling out the back after lunch. Man, I don't miss the rain in Surrey.
Cheers Daryl
PS. Scott, how many submissions did you get for your contest.

About a 1/2 dozen that actually posted a video for the computerized contest, and a little less for the static contest.

Well..our lights are still running, I was hoping to start taking them down yesterday but,,,some neighbors requested I leave them on for at least tonight. I had several phone calls from out of town people to see if they were still running (guess they saw the news christmas day and boxing day). I don't have the heart to take them down. Last night and tonight we had more the 75 cars each night. But I think tomorrow is the day. I've had people requesting they stay on til Ukeranian Christmas is over. Have any of you ever done that?
Thanks John-R

Well that is the price of fame. You need to adjust now to the situation.
I would suggest you run an Ad in paper next year that your show will end on such and such a day on Jan., 2011.
You will have a bigger issue next year when you increase your display (add channels and arches and whatever else you add).....you better nip this in the behind.

Wow, can't believe how lucky I was not to be contending with snow as part of my dismantling process.
Hope everyone had a good new year! |

Hmmm-m-m ... ... our yard looks pretty dark and gloomy tonight. We started dismantling today ... feelin sorta sad ...
Got about half done ... drying out the inflatables now.
We haven't tallied yet, but figure our donation box was around $800 or so. Over half of that came during the week of Dec 17-24th.
C'mon November 2010 ... can hardly wait!!!
Happy New Year everybody ... what a great group to share our love of Christmas lights with.

We came home to 8 inches of snow with more over night. The tear down will have to wait, I wish we had snow before christmas... i guess it gives me more time to buy more lights for next year....

Spent over 3hrs today moving stuff from the garage to the attic. So between my wife and I - we did a full day shift. I kinda agree - feels sad packing it all away. But in other ways, it feels kinda nice to start the year off fresh. Now need to think about how to arrange things for next year. Also, sorta wondering if I should go try to scope out some deals - that is if there is anything left.... |

| We've got most of our stuff down, spent 2 days drying the inflatables in the house, and worked on most of the lights today. There is just way too much snow in the yard this year, its almost impossible to dig out the deer and a few other things. It's so dark out in the yard now....and empty. Oh well, there is always next year, which we're already planning for. |

We had no snow, until Saturday so I plan on leaving up for one more week so I can enjoy the lights. Just not the same without the snow reflection!

I took two of the five arches down. They are drying in the basement before I put them in the garage.
Also 1 controller is also drying in the basement......work great even buried in snow with no garbage bag over it.
Slowly I am dismantling the display.

I figure I can remove the other 3 arches and some lights by the weekend, but the mini trees, and the mini mega trees well need to wait for however long.

It is taking me longer than I expected because of the snow and because of steps I took to prevent theft(made it hard for the bad guys which is making it hard for me).
Going to need to remember that for next year.

Well I get a little done when I can. I still need to remove the last arch (big arch), the 16 mini trees, and the 2 mega trees after today.
Anyhow they may be up for some time.
Today I take off the lights from the bushes and 6ft tree.
The controllers still need to come down, but last to be removed is the Ferris Wheel.

Well ... we spent today in the yard ... packed up another ~10,000 lights and dried a few more inflatables. Just the roof & gutter lights left to take down and about 30 netlights to get dry before we pack them up.
Then comes the job of sorting & packing all the extensions and getting all of the stuff stored in a temp location until the weather is warm enough to finish our shed. Hope it will be big enough ... 24'(L) x 4'(D) x 5'(H).

Well I took the big arch down, 85% of the house lights, the lights in the bushes, and the two guard houses.
I still have the mini trees, two mini mega trees, Feriis wheel, deer, i wood cutout, and some lights on the deck, lights on the 6ft tree, and the radio sign.
Then I need to box everything.
Warm weather here right now so I better get things done.

We've managed to get most everything packed away except for some deer and the house lights. Still too much snow on roof and yard. Warmer now tho so might be able to finish this week.

Sure is a big difference from BC. Its frigging 10+ degrees here. Felt like spring this past weekend. I kinda missed the winter - but maybe I shouldn't wish too hard. |

We're currently sitting at +4 at 8:30 AM and I'm looking at all the snow disappearing quicker than a fat kid on a smartie (me). I haven't taken down any lights as yet but if this weather keeps up I'll have no choice, we won't have any snow left.
Cheers Daryl B.

It was something like +7 here today. Got tghe last of my wire frames out (last 4 are drying out) I don`t remember having so much trouble removing stakes. Well the temp fence of lights should come down quickly because it is all above ground.

LongShadow just gave you the start of the story ... It got up to 14 here in Burnaby today ... supposed to be even warmer over the next couple of days.
They're now getting concerned about the Olympics in mid-Feb. It's warm and raining at the top of the local mountains ... you can see lots of bald areas up there. They have now closed Cypress for a couple of days. They say they have a contigency plan ... snow machines. But ... I am told that snow machines won't produce snow in this warm weather ... just more rain and slush. Maybe some of you will have to truck in some prairie snow... |
